be kind, rewind
about
During the fall of my senior year I had the opportunity to work on an especially personal subject for my senior project. With a general focus on “emerging issues,” I chose to focus on the increasing epidemic of food allergy diagnoses. As someone who has suffered from severe food allergies for most of their life, this topic is especially close to me, and led me to reflect on my lived experience thus far and how my disability has affected those around me. This final video is intended to reveal a hidden part of the world for those with food allergies, through a conversation with my mother. Paired with images of my childhood I hope this video evokes empathy in the viewer and encourages them to better look out for those with allergies or any kind of disability.

This project was displayed on an old TV via VHS in the final show for the School of Design’s senior class of 2020. The setting was intended to bring an intimate feeling to each individual who watched it, as well as nodding to the original format these home videos would’ve appeared in. Visitors were asked to interact with the system and rewind/play the tv on their own as they would do in their own homes.
